Dramatic Seascape Noordhoek Beach

Noordhoek Beach (north) is a popular walking, birding and surfing beach. The expansive white sand beach, granite rock formations and rugged coastline in general makes this a popular beach for photography.

Noordhoek Beach is approx. 8 km long and at its northern end it is shadowed by Chapmans Peak's rugged granite cliffs that plunge into the Atlantic ocean. In the winter months a large seasonal wetland forms behind the beach, attracting many species of bird, including Greater Flamingo.

The beach is popular amonst dog walkers, surfers and in summer it is a popular beach for general recreational users and is a popular sundowner spot. The Hoerikwaggo trail also crosses the beach.

In summer the south easter batteres the beach, whipping up the ocean and sand blasting everything in its path. In winter the beach is far more desolate, but with less wind and earlier sunsets its a great time to capture dramatic seascape photographs, especially when winter storms pass over.

Noordhoek beach is a popular surf spot, with The Hoek, Dunes and Kakapo, being well frequented surf spots. This is a really great surf photography spot, especially in the early evenings with backlit surfers and sunsets.
